CrossWinds Staff Values

As we took on new staff, I developed core values to define the way our staff team works together. I have a different member of the staff teach a different core value each month. The goal is to remind us of the value and help the staff take ownership of the value in their lives. Below is a copy of the poster that hangs in the office of our campuses. 1. We love Jesus.
  • We stay close to Jesus.
  • We try to honor Jesus in all we do.
  • We make time with Jesus in personal Bible reading and prayer our first priority

2. We love people.
  • We go out of our way to love people by serving people.
  • People are not an interruption to our ministry. They are our ministry.
  • We are not relationally passive. We always take the initiative to build new relationships or repair old ones when they break.

3. We love our work.
  • We have a positive attitude.
  • We are friends with other staff members.
  • We view our role as more than just a job.
  • We are enthusiastic about CrossWinds and the leadership of the church.
  • We are grateful to be paid for our work. Many in the church would love to be paid to serve Christ.

4. We are loyal to one another.
  • We speak positively of other staff members.
  • Our loyalty is up to our supervisor and the vision of the church. Our loyalty is not down to the people we lead.
  • We give staff members the benefit of the doubt and defend them to others.
  • We believe the leadership of the church has our best interest at heart.

5. We are wiling to say the last 10%.
  • We are willing to speak the truth to one another in a loving way, even when it is uncomfortable.
  • We keep short accounts when offended.
  • We have the hard conversation in a timely manner
  • We engage in healthy conflict.
    • We define the problem and stick to the issue.
    • We pursue purity of heart.
    • We plan a time for discussion
    • We affirm the relationship
    • We listen carefully
    • We forgive
    • We propose a solution.

6. We always work to improve.
  • We are willing to relearn what we think we already know.
  • We always work to improve personally, emotionally, intellectually, and spiritually.
  • We are open to constructive criticism.
  • We focus on growing in our love for Christ, knowledge of God’s word, prayer, and service.
  • It is our responsibility to create and submit a development plan that is approved by our supervisor.

7. We accomplish what we said we will do and execute our jobs at the highest level possible.
  • We function at a high pace.
  • The quality of what we do meets or exceeds expectations.
  • We do our work as if we were doing it for Christ.
  • We are accountable for our responsibilities and accept the consequences when they are unfulfilled.

8. We are willing to go the extra mile.
  • Going above and beyond is the standard, not the exception.
  • We don’t just do the minimum. We want to be known for jobs well done.
  • We refuse to operate our ministry in a silo but are committed and involved with the rest of the church family.

9. We are responsible for staying healthy.
  • Ministry for the long-haul, not the short sprint.
  • We are stewards of our bodies. We are responsible for our diet and exercise.
  • We are responsible for loving our spouse and our children. We are not married to the church. We are married to our spouse.

10. We seek wisdom when making crucial decisions.
  • The Team makes better decisions than the individual.
  • We ask for input from other members of the staff team to see blind spots in our ministry so we can serve others better.
  • We ask for input from those we serve to learn how to serve them better.
