Mark 9:42-50 - Get Radical About Sin

Today we often hear about people being radical. There is radical Islam that wants to kill to spread their faith. There are the radical members of the Democratic Party who are pushing for a socialist country. While radical often has a bad connotation, there are times when being radical is appropriate. If you are diagnosed with cancer, it is often better to take a radical approach instead of a casual approach. Just as it is wise to take a radical approach to cancer, Jesus tells we need to take a radical approach to cutting sin out of our life. Join us as we learn the dangers of habitual sin.

Mark 6:14-29 - The Death Of John The Baptist

In the Gospel of Mark, there is only one narrative that is not about Jesus. It is the story of the death of John the Baptist. As Jesus told us there was no prophet greater than John. The story of his death is a vivid illustration of the kind of suffering all faithful disciples will face. It is also an amazing case study on the consequences of sexual sin.

Genesis 4+5 - Descent

A 1991 article in the Chicago Tribune told how a Texas mother was so intent on her 13 year old daughter making the cheerleading squad that she hired a hitman to kill the mother of her daughters competition. All this to secure her 13 year old daughter's spot on the cheerleading squad. How to people become so evil and cold-hearted? Psalm 2 - Immediate and Unconditional Surrender

edge

We are told to invite Jesus into our hearts. The decision to invite Jesus into our hearts sounds like deciding on having cream or sugar in our coffee. It is far too self orientated. According to Psalm 2, Jesus doesn't ask for us to invite him in, he commands us to repent of our sin. We must flee to him as the only shield that can protect us from God's white hot wrath. We are commanded to immediately and unconditionally surrender to Christ's rulership in our life or face Christ's terrifying wrath when he returns.

James 4:13-17 - God of my iPhone

In this last message of the third section of James, we learn how pride taints our thinking. We plan our days and our lives with pride, rather than submitting ourselves to God's plans for us. As we refine our skills, we see ourselves as the secret to our success. When it comes to our choices, if nobody will notice, we are quick to cut the corners. Where do these attitudes come from? James tells us these are all subtle ways pride seeps into our think and, unless repented of, shuts of the flow of God's grace into our lives.
